The Drove Road

Drove roads were broad grassy tracks used for driving animals to market in the days before lorries and trains. The legendary annual Christmas goose drive (and later on turkeys) followed such tracks from Norfolk to Leadenhall Market in London. It is believed to have dated from the 1500s.
This Drove Road runs straight through Wilbraham Fen, with deep ditches either side to keep the fen water at bay.
