Go West

Four miles to the west of where I live is Cornwall. Today I walked as far as the the River Tamar. The two bridges seen here cross the river into Cornwall. The iconic metal suspension bridge carries the railway and was opened in 1859. It was designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel and is known as the Royal Albert Bridge. The much newer road bridge to the right was officially opened in 1962.
Walking back I stopped to look at St Bureaux Church. There is an extra photo here of the church and the blue plaque, which says something of it's interesting history. Close to the church are the foundations of a pub that was called the blue monkey. The sign used to show a blue monkey swinging from a tree and was a well-known local landmark.
