Cogwheels

These coghweels are part of the old locks and bridge at the lock island of Zeeburg, Amsterdam. This bridge and lock are left over from the old Merwede Canal. Since the opening of the new Amsterdam Rijn Canal in 1952, the lock and bridge are no longer used. Nowadays the canal runs behind the lock. The Merwedekanaal still exists and runs from the Merwede river near Gorinchem to Utrecht.
