Its the Way It Is

Today

is International Social Justice Day

and for my art-online group our brief for submission today was to produce a piece of art freestyle to represent justice in some form.

This is the statue of Lady Justice at Dublin Castle (the story behind it is quite interesting) .

So on a rainy, windy miserable day in Dublin I set about replicating Lady Justice from bits n pieces which are personal to me.

My Lady Jay is an elegant jewellery display model. I hang my rings, necklaces, bracelets on her hands and her wings. (It took me ages to take it all off).

Lady Jay has a neck chain hanging from both her hands. They weigh the same and they both have doves on them. This symbolises the scales. Around her waist is a ribbon and her ‘sword’ is a pen (cos it’s mightier). Lady Jay is aloof and distant - she must concentrate on meting out justice and it’s a hard task. Because she is essentially classy she also looks her best because that pleases her.

She was educated in the classic style but she also knows that ‘there is nothing new under the sun’. Justice and fairness are the same throughout the ages. For her Plato has always hit the spot and she never - no never goes anywhere without a copy of his Republic in her chi chi handbag.

Lady Jay doesn’t just talk the talk, she knows that to be credible she must also walk the walk
