Country mail boxes

Blipping two days ago about POBs reminded me that these things are different in the country. Mail boxes are generally at the entrance to a property, and in rural areas that might be a considerable distance from the homestead (extra). Mail boxes on country roads need to be tough, and they are often hand made, improvising with whatever materials may be to hand. Repurposed fridges are very common.

This was the mail box at the entrance gate to our dear friend Babb’s property in central NSW, in July 1983. The mail box was a defunct fridge, firmly mounted on a stand and protected by a roof from the extremes of weather.
