Royal British Schools

My car got its weekly outing this morning, to do my essentail shopping in Thame.  This pretty little building says "Royal British Schools 1837".  It was built by a charity to provide elementary education for poor children of all denominations in Thame.    The Charity was sponsored by the then Duchess of Kent (Queen Victoria's mother), hence the "Royal", and there were two "Schools", one for girls with a mistress, and one for boys with a master.  It is still a primary school.  There were a few children in school this morning, presumably the children of essential workers.  But in two weeks' time it should be as full of chatter and laughter as it was for the previous 184 years.
