Cambridge Dave's 2021

Ideal conditions for flying a flag!

This is my entry for Wide Wednesday. It is taken with a wide angle lens and there is something shiny at the top on a metal pole to meet this week's criteria! It also tagged for Wild Wednesday because of the strong wind!

I assume that the flag flying over the main entrance and tower of the University Library in Cambridge is marking LBGT History Month.

The University Library is entitled to a free copy of each book published in the UK. The other copyright libraries in the British Isles are the British Library, the Bodleian Library,  the National Library of Wales, the National Library of Scotland, and the library of Trinity College, Dublin.

It really does carry a copy of everything published. I came across an academic friend in the library a few years back who had a pile of a dozen Dr. Who annuals on his desk. He was researching for a lecture and article on the significance of Dr. Who as a cultural icon! Nowadays, however, some of its huge stock is stored off-site and needs to be ordered in.

It is Cambridge's main research library. Remarkably there are 115 other libraries in the University! Designed by Giles Gilbert Scott, it was opened in 1934 on the site of a hospital buillt for wounded men in the First World War.
