Perseverence

Today we did a mini-project on the Perseverance mission after school.  We looked at the Solar System and Mars in a book, watched the rocket launch, looked at how the landing worked in an animation, then watched the video.  By the time we got to the landing, CyclopsJnr was super excited and when the folks in mission control jumped up in truimph, so did he.  We looked at some of the first pictures Perseverance sent from Mars, and listened to it's recording of the Martian wind.  We coloured in a NASA picture of the rover, then built our own.  We even built a lego rocket to launch it (ignoring the glaring disparity in scale!).

The icing on the cake was when we gave CyclopsJnr his certificate showing that his name is engraved on the rover - so his name is on Mars RIGHT NOW!  It pretty much blew his mind.  I did explain it's one of 11 million names engraved at microscale, but still it is his name on Mars!

What a fun afternoon!
