Trig point and barriers

Are trig points even used any more? Now we're all driven by satellites I'm assuming they're redundant. Which is a big shame when you think of the effort made in the past to erect them in wild and remote spots.

This one is at the top of a neighbouring island where I walked with a friend today. In the distance you can see a couple of the Churchill Barriers connecting these southern isles with the main one. It's a fantastic 360° view from up here - which explains the trig point!

LH and I had a very chilly go round the golf course this morning. The wind really cut through you even though it wasn't that strong. It was good to be out doing things together even if on a dull, cold day.
