Dates

Some years ago I went to Kuwait, with a colleague, to talk to representatives of the Arab OU about a module I worked on. It was a smashing few days and the food was simply amazing. One of the things which stayed with me was the coffee break during the working day. Rather than just having pastries there was a lot of fresh fruit and dates, mountains of dates. As someone most used to seeing dates in a narrow plastic tray at Christmas it was glorious. I bought some dates the other day and when I opened them today that memory arrived, unbidden.

I have done a wee bit of gardening today but not much because it is bitterly cold outside and I didn't want to risk hypothermia.
