Lower East Side MKE

After a Sunday morning filled with doing very little, we set out this afternoon to spend some time seeing our new city. We rode The Hop - Milwaukee's free-for-now streetcar - in both directions from end to end.

The ride is only about 20 minutes each way, but it cuts a nice path through downtown. The northern terminus sits about a block from this spot, a ramp leading down the steep bluff to the lakefront.

This is a windy spot, as is most of the city. The sunshine has been a great relief from the grey of winter but the temperature is still hanging out below freezing. The wind brings it down a little further of course.

Lake Michigan, to the left of this photo, is now thawed, and the rivers are no longer frozen over. There are buds on a tree in our backyard. I've heard this time of year called "fool's spring," so we're prepared for second winter.
