Hangar

A very abridged history courtesy (mostly) of the Historic England listing website…

Built in 1916 for the Royal Flying Corps  - this is the only surviving building of No 38 TDS (Training Depot Station), Tadcaster. The station closed in June 1919 and this was used as an aircraft store. It is a good example of its type and date; same construction as at RAF Museum, Hendon, and Duxford Airfield, Cambridgeshire.

I have seen this building plenty of times and only recently ‘noticed’ it when hunting for blips at Headley Hall farm. It is currently in use as a barn / store! If you travel towards York on the A64 from the A1 then you can see this on the left just before the turn for Tadcaster. I think it is in good condition for what, presumably, was meant to be a temporary structure over 100 years ago.

The site was used in WW2 as a searchlight battery and emergency landing field in case RAF Church Fenton nearby got bombed.

I have also added an extra of some colour coded pigs…
