The old Rutan place back blip

Our elderly neighbor told me today she lived in this house when she was a young mother years ago. She said the man who lived on our farm above here had a huge mean bull. Her young kids had to walk past our farm to get to school and it was often out of it's fenced pasture. She was so afraid it was going to spear one of them they moved out of the house and away from the bull. The farmer also moved as he was up in age to a smaller place around the ridge. She said he got locked out of his house there and climbed through the window to get in. The window fell down on him trapping him and he froze to death. Tragic death indeed. He was not found until a salesman happened upon him days later.  Life on these ridges has not changes all that much over the years and I often worry about our neighbors who are out here alone. Cell phones only work if you are on the hill tops but accidents usually happen from the top down where help is nonexistent if you are alone. I'm grateful to have her to get some of the old histories from.
