Last Time

This is one of our kitchen windows, taken from the street.  The pavement runs right under it with the sill at about normal adult shoulder height.

I've long been suspicious of the utility of the beams in our kitchen, suspecting that they were bought from a salvage yard and used to embellish the vintage look of the property, but I never minded.  On the other hand, the surveyor of the house before we bought it in 1994 opined that this part of the house dated back to the 1500s; and part of the wall above is still made of wattle and daub.

But the house we're moving to was built in 1985 :-)
