Bud first, flower next

Got two young Crepe Myrtle trees in the garden, similar ages, but only this one is starting to flower.
While there are only a few of them at the moment, the flowers themselves look terrific; and I'm guessing the nursery staff are correct when they suggest there will be a profusion of them as the season goes on.
Hardy and versatile, the Lagerstroemia indica suits suburban gardens really well because they generally mature into small trees or large bushes, and so don't dominate the area around them, or threaten power lines; and also because, in hotter and drier regions - there are a few of them in Southern Down Under - they produce their colourful flowers from late spring right through to mid- or even late-autumn.
As a bonus, when they're not flowering, their trunks also look very attractive - shiny silver colouring with gold and brown highlights throughout.
As is my want, I like to keep an eye on the flowers' predecessors, the ever-so-humble buds. This one seems to have been snapped quite early in the flowering process, with just one of many leaves showing as it comes out of the bud, and just one many stamens to go with it.
Tomorrow's photo will show the very showy [petals and stamens fully unfurled.
