Droppings

My neighbour Sybil, was telling me today that when she was wee, her mum, her and her brother used to get the tram to the last stop on the outskirts of Edinburgh and head off into the Pentland hills to collect sheep droppings.

They would collect them in the paper bags that sugar had come in from the grocers and then tip them into a large leather bag that her mother carried with her.

When they returned to Leith ,Father would soak the droppings in a big barrel to make fertilizer for his tomatoes.

Brilliant.
