Worshipping Nature

Down on your knees.
Its that time of year again to begin monitoring a tiny flowering plant which grows at just two locations in the UK. One of these places is Arnside Knott.
This is the white variety of Viola rupestris.

A small group of local botanists works hard to ensure its continuing survival. At least now they have managed to get its seeds into the Kew Seed Bank for long term storage. And some seeds have been propagated and attempts to start a second colony are underway.

This is one of the events which, like Snowdrops and lambs, gets an annual outing.
