Mill-pond at Cheddar Gorge

The sun broke through the greyness this afternoon, and I remembered that when the sun is getting lower in the sky, it fires up the limestone of the Mendips and the Cheddar Gorge, glowing pinks, rust, and purply greys. It's a wonderful sight even from far away. However, I was a bit late for the show, and much of the towering cliffs were in the shade. Walking back down the hill, I saw the peaceful mill-pond filled by the River Yeo; below this point, the water is rushing and tumbling downhill too.

Wikipedia:
The Cheddar Yeo is a small river in Somerset, England. Beneath the limestone of the Mendip Hills it forms the largest underground river system in Britain. After emerging into Cheddar Gorge it flows through the village of Cheddar, where it has been used in the past to power mills. From the Middle Ages until the 19th century the river had ports for sea-going vessels but is no longer navigable. Some of the water, which is of good quality, is diverted into Cheddar Reservoir to provide drinking water for Bristol.
