Alice Nutter....Pendle Witch.

This is the face of a quite striking little bronze statue of Alice Nutter.....executed in 1612 for Witchcraft. It was erected in 2012....the 400th Anniversary of the Pendle Witches Trial at Lancaster Gaol . Unlike most of the other accused women, Alice was quite wealthy as she was the young widow of the Yeoman....but many landowners around were looking to carve up her estate. Her old house, which is beautiful , still stands in the little Pendleside village of Roughlee.
The statue was unveiled in 2012 by another famous local.....who moved on many years ago, but whose family house on Slipper Hill Reservoir, remains .....Bobby Elliott, the drummer from The Hollies. See the Extra for full statue....Just a little history titbit from one of my local regular walks!
