De Bagijnhofpoort

Urban walk today. The old part of town is an open air history lesson. It's not in great shape but this is the Bagijnhofpoort, which gives way from Oude Delft to the Bagijnhof, the court of the beguines. Catholicism was forbidden in Holland after the 80 Years War, then, as these things go, worshipping happened underground. A lady I met just now told me a story I already heard: behind what looked (and still looks!) like any normal house door, there was at the time a secret Catholic church.
