A few weeks ago I blipped some fairly unusual sheep which I discovered were Valais Blacknose sheep.  Yesterday I saw many sheep but have no idea what breed they are and today discovered that these three are Scotch Mule sheep so perhaps those seen yesterday are the same as they are close by.  A retired farmer came to feed the three ewes in a small field and told me that these are Scotch Mules which are Scottish Blackface ewes sired by Bluefaced Leicester rams   He had won prizes at local shows and at the annual Scottish agricultural show at Ingliston but regrettably shows are cancelled for the second year due to Covid so he can’t enter again this summer. I think it was the ewe with the blue rump who had won prizes. Her lambs are due tomorrow and the other two had given birth to triplets and quadruplets although the extra three lambs had been given to other mothers as is usual because two are enough for a mother.  The little lambs were very frisky, playfully head butting, jumping around and across the tiny stream.
