Ransomes, Sims and Jefferies

 - made agricultural machinery in Ipswich from the 1800s until the 1960s after Mr Ransome took out a patent for tempering cast iron in 1785.  This lawnmower must have been a treasure because it still here gathering up the moss.   A treasure for  Dereliction this week. Thanks Marlieske for hosting

Went mad today and met a friend for a walk, a coffee and a cheese scone at Sizergh.

Our 5km walk means I've finished my virtual walk along Hadrian's Wall. I've reached Bowness on Solway which has a church built from the grain store from the large fort that was here in Roman times. Its only a little village but brimming with history. Not only is it the end of Hadrian's Wall but there is also Port Carlisle and the old railway viaduct that used to go across the Solway to Scotland. Using Google Street view I had a good look round the old harbour and saw the girders from the viaduct on the beach.  Finally, enjoyed a virtual celebration lunch in the Kings Arms.  The virtual walk has been a really good way of checking out the route in anticipation of doing it for real some time in the not too distant future.
