Synchronised backstroke

Yes, a new Olympic sport has just been invented - synchronised backstroke. Unfortunately, one member of the team was a little behind the game.

So, the secret to photographing swimming is to use an outdoor pool on a bright sunny day, I believe. No need to ramp up the ISO, so you get nice sharp shots, and use as high a speed as you can. I have often taken photos in our local indoor pool and it's amazing how much darker it is than it looks and it's really hard to get a fast shot without going to extreme ISOs.

The closest swimmer (blue cap) is my 9 year old daughter, which is why you get to see this shot rather than a more dramatic and splashy freestyling random boy.

A bit bigger to see a few frozen splashy bits
