Where the Light Gets In

Bright and fast

iss sighting—
right over our heads it flew
for a few minutes

and an extra for today:

aboard iss
all seasons in just one day—
how am I to dress?

I had my first ISS sighting on Tuesday night (on the main photo, it's the brightest point, right in the centre), and it was rather moving/amazing. I knew where to look for it (and at what time) thanks to Doris' (Elwetritsche here on Blip) advice of a good app that told me all about it: date, time, azimuth and altitude at the beginning, maximum altitude and end of the period during which it was visible from here. For almost seven minutes, it crossed our sky.

The main surprise was its speed! And there's no way you can miss it: it's definitely the brightest object in the sky when it's there...

But what moved me was to think that, some 400 km over our heads, there are 7 humans up there in that extreme penthouse. 4 US citizens, 2 Russians and 1 Japanese.

In less than a month, Thomas Pesquet will be up there, looking down (in the rare moments when he has time to!).

Oh, and next time there's a good sighting slot, I'll make sure to use my camera, and not my phone...
