By The Pool

(Back blipped one year later)

After the stress of the last couple of days, the remainder of our tour party were happy to spend the day sunbathing, reading, taking the occasional dip in the pool and enjoying a lunch at the poolside bar. The talk was mainly about the journey home, hoping it was going to happen, and what things would be like in a England when we got home. We were all pretty certain that this was likely to be the last time we’d be able to enjoy a day like this for a while; if only we’d known just how long that while would be!

By today the hotel was more or less empty. There were fewer than 20 guests left and we were outnumbered by staff at a ratio of at least 4:1. Chatting to some of them, they were understandably worried about their jobs and livelihoods.

We spent a very convivial final evening in Pub Street.
