A foraging bee

A little weak sunshine and the bees are flying. Buff Tailed bumble bees are named after their queen who has a buff coloured tail, the rest of the colony have white tails with just a small band of buff.
In the spring the queen establishes a colony and starts laying eggs. The nest may be in an old mammal hole underground and grow to 600 bees.
