Driving Creek railway

Created by potter Barry Brickell who gave up a science teaching job to become a full time potter in 1961. He bought his hillside 24 hectare property where he could source the clay he needed for his pots and built the railway to enable him to get the material down to his workshop. It’s now a tourist attraction and travels 3 km to a lookout he called Eye Full Tower because of the magnificent views over Coromandel. Barry Brickell died 5 years ago at age 80 and his enterprise is now run by a trust.
