Molesworth

Early start this morning as our friend picked us up for a beautiful drive up into the high country. She gave us a tour of the first part of Molesworth Station. This is NZ's largest high country station (stock farm). It is administered by DOC (Dept. of Conservation) and has two separate high voltage electricity power lines passing through it. These transmit power from the South Island hydro schemes to the top of the South Island and across Cook Strait to the North Island. After a stop for a late picnic breakfast at the NZED bridge we returned back into Hanmer to meet our friend's cat Mila and horse Merlin. First extra is looking back down into Hanmer from Jacks Pass. Second is the Acheron river from the Engineers' bridge which was built to move sheep across the river. Third is Mila and fourth is Merlin.
