General Gordon Hotel

Named for the British general after whose death NSW sent a contingent to fight in the Sudan war.

The pub was built in the early 1930s, damaged by fire a few years ago, and re-opened this month. I like the biplane in the poster - the next block was demolished due to aircraft noise when Sydney’s third runway opened.

They’ve preserved as much as they could, including replacing damaged tiles on the exterior and amping up the Art Deco inside. Interestingly, for these times, both the publican and the head chef are women.

It was a pleasant walk down the Princes Highway to a pub given a new lease of life.

Hope you’re having an enjoyable Sunday.

Thanks for hosting Marlieske.
