Atten....SHUN!

You can almost watch these babies grow! Not triffids, these lively shoots are Peonia avant garde, I haven’t seen it in flower yet but it’s in a nearby garden so will go back in a couple of weeks to check progress. Everything about this little scene shouts “Get out of my way there’s work to be done!”

I love the fleeting continuation of colour from the peony shoots to the hellebores in the background, which must only coincide for a very short time and perhaps not at all in some years.

The extra is an odd little iris (I think) growing in a large bed in the same garden. The inky black patches on the petals are like velvet, feels like there’s a story going on...

Today is another big step in lockdown easing, which is alternately hopeful and alarming, given the horrors of this last year and who is in charge of us. Stay safe everyone it’s not over.
