Tiny Toad

This is a very young and very small Southern Toad. It's about the size of my thumb nail. For the past several years I've been netting Southern Toad tadpoles at the DogPark ponds and rehoming them in our pond and bog. Our yard now has a very healthy population of the diminutive amphibians. They help to keep the insect population under control and also provide nourishment for the hawks, owls and reptiles. And they sing a sweet, if  sometimes a bit loud, high pitched trill at mating time, which I enjoy hearing. Be Well.

'Poetry is the art of creating imaginary gardens with real toads.'
