Löwenzahn

...is the German name for dandelion, meaning "lion's tooth" (referring to the shape of the leaves). 

It's been another unusually hot day, and the first dandelion flowers appeared in the garden. 

For years I used to pick some of its leaves for a salad every spring, but I missed the right time this year - once the flowers are out, the greens get very bitter.

Anyway, with so many cats visiting our garden, it may not be a great idea to eat those leaves...
