Nymphaea ‘Lindsey Woods’

Purchased this yesterday as a birthday present and delighted to see it in near full flower today.  Unfortunately, it had closed up by the time the recipient came over but looks like it will be sunny tomorrow so she should be able to see it before our (mild) winter comes.

The extra... Before an early birthday dinner, the 6 of us went for a ride around Narrabeen Lagoon this afternoon - another beautiful Sydney day weather wise so quite a few people out.  It gets pretty crowded on days like today with a mix of walkers, cyclists, joggers, dogs, and children on all manner of wheeled devices on the 8+ km circuit.

10 years ago if you wanted to circumnavigate on land there was about a 3km section where you had to walk across a narrow weir to gain access to a public golf course, divert into the Sydney Academy of Sport and Recreation, ride / walk along the shoulder of the road for a few hundred metres before being on a mix of dirt, sand and a few sealed paths.  After heavy rain you had to carry your bike through the muddier sections.

For the first time in years there were some muddy sections, a reminder of how much rain we had recently.  It's likely some parts of the trail where fully submerged for several days.

It was kind of more fun in many ways before the works, and certainly nowhere near as popular.  The golf course finally gave up the fight (it was inevitable) and were forced to move their famous green, located on a spit jutting out into the lagoon to make for the trail.  It took a few years, a fair whack of money, three(?) new pedestrian bridges, metal boardwalks and the most recent final 500m+ boardwalk out into the lagoon avoiding a narrow section between the water and the main road.

Blessed to live so close to it and great to see it available to more people.
