Alders

Now that we can drive a bit further we went for a walk through the nature reserves managed by the Little Ouse Headwaters Project - along the river itself, through the various fen areas to the far (eastern) end of Hinderclay Fen, which is actually dry heathland. The alder carr section at the western end of Hinderclay Fen is relatively small but always beckons the photographer. It's flooded for most of the year & the alders survive the waterlogging by having buttresses of aerial roots.
