Long

Twas a long day.
Came downstairs at 7 am to do a class only to find Son 1 in tears doubled up on the sofa. He’s had a grumbly stomach since October but docs up at Aberdeen Uni been pretty non proactive to help find the cause. The last few nights it’s been getting worse so much that unbeknownst to me he’s phoned NHS24 thru the night and already had an appointment arranged across the road at the community hospital. I forget he’s an adult sometimes.
All thoughts of my class went out the window as an hour later I’m heading in to the Western with one boy in agony. Thank god no traffic.
Straight into surgical assessment and waiting in preop for most of the day. Nail biting wait, more concerned that it wasn’t his appendix and if not, what?
Needless to say Covid forbade any entry into the hospital so headed back to join in for a wee celebration of fellow blipper keepingtrack’s rather big birthday. ( the youthful one in purple) Socially distanced walk to Arniston Folly for some cake in the sunshine with a Pot Luck Few and then back for more cake which we were assured was a representation of J in her canoe though it was rather gynaecological in translation. Nice to see some friendly faces again although strange no hugs, no blowing out candles, no pot luck supper.

Then back to hospital watch and sat outside the Western for most of the evening waiting on word. Took in some stuff at 8.30 only to be told it’ll be a few more hours yet.
Finally, got word he’s ok and his appendix was ‘ruined’, poor lad, been so brave .. and to think I was asking him if he just felt a bit anxious!
Phew at least it was that and not coeliac or something sinister. Be glad to get him back tomorrow or Wednesday and look after him. Thankful it happened here and not at Uni.

Needless to say boss won’t give me tomorrow off.
