Some army of great beasts has risen from the earth, leaving behind the husk of a former life, now discarded as obsolete.

There were several of these scattered about the grass outside the back door this morning. A quick Google has me thinking they are the pupal cases of what are now rain moths, and on the lookout for such fluttery beasts of the night sky.
