Junk Playground

It was another day of very changeable weather where it was snowing one minute and sunny the next.  We managed to catch a sunny spell and took our son to an interesting playground near us that's next to a nearby school.  The public can use it when the school isn't open.  It has tyres with plank walkways, ropes to swing on and shelters built by the children.  He needed a little help on some of the trickier stuff but he really enjoyed himself.  It reminded me of an article I read about post war junk (adventure) playgrounds where children were encouraged to create their own playgrounds where they could explore, take risks, learn and develop skills.  I couldn’t find the original article but this is another one talking about junk (adventure) playgrounds.  http://www.architectureofearlychildhood.com/2012/01/post-war-adventure-or-junk-playgrounds.html
