Foraging

Today was a sunny day mixed with the odd flurry of snow.  We went out for a foraging walk in the afternoon, looking for few flowered leek.  Few flowered leek is an invasive plant that has an oniony taste and there is a huge patch of it not far from where we live.  We have been trying to find wild garlic, without much luck, until today when we saw a wee patch of it.  We just took a small handful of leaves but hopefully we will find more patches.  We often look for things to forage on our walks.  The wild garlic smells great at the moment and my wife has made some cheese and wild garlic/leek scones with what we gathered today.  I plan to pick some nettles in the next few days to make nettle soup.  We use the recipe that’s in the river cottage cookbook. By the time we got home from our walk it was snowing heavily but was sunny again with no signs of snow by sunset.
