A different kind of memorial

Our golf club's head pro, Jim, passed in Feb of last year (causes not related to covid), just as we all went into lockdown.  His colleagues and the club's management have been waiting for over a year to celebrate his life.  And it happened this weekend, with a tournament dedicated to him, which I photographed.

This was the best kind of memorial and I believe he would have thoroughly enjoyed it: all 18 holes were shortened to par 3; each hole featured photographs as well as tidbits or testimonies about Jim (I found out he was a hunter and regularly prepared his own venison sausages!); the club put on all his favorite foods -- among them: lobster rolls (each year he took a group of club members up to Maine for a week-long 'golf and lobster' outing), but also all sorts of meats (he was definitely a carnivore!), including a new feature the club is rolling out: a food truck, which will conveniently be parked midway through the course. Near the club house, the photo collages shone with images depicting just how much of a family man he was as well as a consummate professional.

The staff really outdid themselves for that event: tasteful, bittersweet, but also enchanting :)
