A fish... biologist.

Kiwis.

After breakfast we did a little exploring of Hokitika. We went to an aquarium/kiwi centre that boasted a shedload of eels as well as a variety of other marine creatures. As you exit you get a chance to view "a real live kiwi" which was unfortunately a bit disappointing as we watched one lone kiwi pace frantically back and forth evidently in a bit of distress.

We departed Hokitika and started our descent along the West coast towards Franz Josef. Many songs were sang as we traveled down the beautiful coast. We arrived in Franz Josef and immediatly set about repairing our memories of the elusive kiwi. We visited the Wildlife Kiwi Centre which is ran by the Department of Conservation. A much happier bunch of kiwis were encountered and we even got to view the facilities they use to raise the birds before they are released back into the wild. Faith reaffirmed we consumed yet more coffee and wi-fi access before taking an evening stroll through the township of Franz Josef.

Food. Beer. Wine. Tent. Pretty much your standard evening nowadays.
