Postcard

I’m back home following my NHS holiday. Here is my postcard from St.Thomas’ hospital:

24 March - Trip up to the hospital feeling pretty fit and well. Anticipating an 8 hour operation and 3 weeks in hospital.
25 March - The surgeons (there were a lot of them) worked quickly and I was out in only 5 hours.
Overnight stay in the intensive/recovery ward.
26/3-7/4 - On the ward for those who have been isolating for two week and are as bug free as possible. Only a maximum of 6 of us in the room. I bagged a window bed with this view. We were a friendly group of chaps of a certain age. The level of banter was at the level of the bloke in the corner bed “So it turned out I didn’t need a stomach - who knew?
8 April - Moved to an (en suite) side room at 6:27 in the morning. Mrs S was coming in to find out more about how to look after my revised plumbing. The hospital was keen to keep her away from anyone else - due to a risk of infection.
8-12/4 - Recovering in my room. Gradually having cannulars/44 staples/stitches/PiCC line etc removed

Thanks to Mrs S for the wonderful support (with daily chats on WhatsApp, via the free WiFi)
Thanks to brother-in-law Keith for the transport (he’s a star)

Thanks to the NHS all the staff, including nurses, doctors, surgeons, catering people, cleaners, specialist etc for all being so positive, helpful and generally great!
