Windows in Time

Torquay Museum is 175 years old. There are thousands of historic images in their collection. In an exciting project the Museum have created a free outdoor trail of 25 large format historic images of the area, sited close to where they were originally taken, creating ‘windows in time.’ Working with Torbay Council many of these images have been mounted onto buildings around Torquay and Paignton creating an easy to navigate trail.

This photograph is at Paignton Railway Station, where it was taken in 1949. It shows Jamaica’s first gold medal winner for the 400 m, the gentle giant, Arthur Wint, with members of the Paignton Amateur Athletic Club. In August Wint appeared to a crowd of 5500 spectators at an event at Queens Park as part of the Paignton Regatta.

Each photograph contains a mystery object from the museum’s collection. Can you spot it?

Sorry this photograph is a bit oblique. There was a strong reflection on it.
