Hatched

The eggs were due to hatch just after Easter weekend and we had thought that the weather had proved too chilly for a successful hatch this year. Last night we had thought better luck next year. Imagine the surprise and delight this morning when George (the emu) showed off his first chick. There are still three more eggs in the nest so we will wait and see. George has sat on the eggs for 64 days, not eating and barely drinking. He is very protective and is chilling happily with his chick and the remaining eggs.
The girls came this afternoon and were great to spend time with. Tilly decided to make her granny in England a card because she is missing her. It has been over a year since she has been able to come over. Tilly said ‘I’m making an envelope too, I have measured it and I know what to do.’ Sometime later we noticed that the envelope was sitting ready to post. The address really made us smile. She lives in Epsom. See the extra. We slipped it inside another envelope with the more detailed address on and Mrs BR took her to post it straight away.
