Phew!

Spotted this Fiery Searcher Beetle, Calosoma scrutator,  at the DogPark this morning. It was large, for a beetle, it's body was approx. 1.4 inches (35mm) in length! It was moving as fast as it could through the leaf litter and would stop only occasionally for me to get a clear shot. According to my Seek app, 'the adult beetle may excrete a foul smelling oil when handled. This oil has been described to smell similar to rotten milk or rancid olive oil.' I did pick it up briefly but didn't experience any bad oder. Just lucky, I guess. Good thing I didn't press my luck!
Be Safe and Be Well. :)
