The Dovecot, Llantwit Major.

When we take the long walk down to our local beach, we have to pass this lovely old medieval Dovecot. It is grade II listed and belonged to Tewksbury Abbey, and the Lay Brethren who lived here used the dovecot as a source of food (eggs and meat), they used the feathers for pillows and bedding etc and the droppings were spread on the land as manure. Apparently, its round construction was to ensure the maximum number of nesting boxes could be built into the stone walls.
