Festival of Colour

What a treat of a day we have had.

Every 2 years, Wanaka has an Arts Festival “Festival of Colour”, which also includes “Aspiring Conversations”. The conversations are on many topics, and offer a variety of things to challenge and make us think. A few years ago, Jill and I went to hear 4 young women MPs talk- they were all fabulous, but we said to each other “better watch that one”. Yes, it was Jacinda Ardern, who is now our Prime Minister.

We went to an Aspiring Conversation today called “A Careful Revolution”. It was on climate change, and there were 3 excellent speakers. One a 23 year old- Tamatha Paul....another person we said to each other “better watch that one”. She is already a Wellington City Counciller, with the climate change portfolio.

Many of the events are in the Crystal Palace, a huge Marquee. (extra) It is owned by several Towns that run Art Festivals and is a great asset.

This morning, I walked around town and took photos of the art painted on shop windows. An artist did the outlines and school children did the filling in, and made a wonderful job of all the different wondows (extra).

We listened to a great brass trio, who played outside a popular cafe.(extra)

This afternoon we went to a free event called “The Air Between Us”.
Wow!
It was by the children’s playground which you can see in my main photo. It was a dance in mid- air, with one of them, Rodney Bell, in a wheel chair. His partner, Chloe Ruftus choreographed their amazing dance. It brought tears to my eyes!

We are staying home tonight, as have 2 more events to go to tomorrow night.

What a treat this Festival is.
