Echoes of war

In 1940, when the British were living in fear of being invaded by Nazi Germany, defences were installed on vulnerable beaches, including our local beach. The defences  included rolls of barbed wire on picket posts to impede the movement of ground troops. On our beach the wire was neatly rolled up at the end of the war but then abandoned!. These coils have remained buried in the sand for nigh on 70 years, and are occasionally exposed by high tides and on-shore gales.
