Ladies lunching

Met J at Acklam Hall for a stroll along the Avenue of Trees followed by lunch on the terrace in front of Acklam Hall. Notoriously, this is the only grade 1 listed building in Middlesbrough. It was built in the 1680s by the Hustler family, was later extended, and became a school in the early 20th century. The land and buildings were sold off by the council about 10 years ago and the hall is now a hotel and restaurant with new houses built on either side. I did not see inside the hall but apparently many original features survive and have been incorporated into the hotel. The food was fine but nothing special. However it felt special to be eating out in company again. And the sun was shining. A return visit when we can nose around inside is on the cards.
