A row of lights

These three lamps hanging from the ceiling are well above the return bench between kitchen and dining/living space in the open plan living or daytime area of the beach house. They form a demarcation rather than a barrier.

The clock on the wall provides a quick and easy reference when time may be of importance, although often it is unimportant here. Tonight, I noted the time after I arrived back from work. Subtracting the time I spent in Warkworth getting petrol for the car, it was still a journey which took more than twice as long as in good weather and off peak traffic.

Today the weather when I left work was a bit wet and rapidly it became only just possible to drive in because of the low light and the heavy rain on the windscreen. The density precluded easy driving but it is likely that many of us would not have driven much faster had there been less traffic.

The clock shows the time about ten minutes after I got inside.
