Ceramic Head Planter

I took this image today on my visit to East Devon. It occupies a space by the door in a private house in Sidbury. I have seen it many times before, but never really taken much notice of it, until I saw one on the BBC programme, The Bidding Room. It is a womans head planter and was designed to hold a potted plant, though I have never seen it used for this. An example of Sidmouth pottery by Andre Loret, it dates I think from the early 1960s. The head that was shown on the bidding room had a lot of black around the eyes, giving it a rather scary appearance. I think this one is much more elegant and a very nice ceramic object.
